OVER AT FULL STOP they have provided an excellent way to decode cliches in book reviews.

Take for example their assessment of the meaning of “flawed” in book reviews…

flawed: this book is similar to the book I was planning to write.

…compared with a review I wrote about Kenneth Slawenski’s recent J.D. Salinger biography:

a full, yet deeply flawed, portrait of the artist.

See? Read the whole piece and you’ll be uncovering cliches like it was your dayjob.
