On Fridays we change things up to connect you with some great music.

This track definitely reminds me of classic soul acts like Otis Redding or The Commitments. (“Try a Little Tenderness,” anyone?) But there’s a fun cognitive dissonance between that guy and his voice, the same way everyone was shocked when they learned John Legend isn’t 65 years old.

This is one of those “unknown quantities” for me, where it’s hard to say whether they’ll end up writing this song over and over again (who could blame them?) or if they’ll have enough range and staying power to go beyond the broken-hearted crooner bluesman vibe.
