On the surface, this is a classic singer-songwriter song: acoustic guitar, longing-for-a-girl lyrics, references being a singer-songwriter, etc. It’s a somewhat tired genre, but it has a place, and done right it can be really good. I like this one because the hook is amazing. And the subversive lyrics make me like it even more: “I’ll find a dead-end job, I’ll try to write a dead-end song just thoughtless enough to make the radio.” wink Reminds me of my other favorite subversive radio hit, “Hook” by Blues Traveler.
